After a rough week for the bullpen, Is it time for the Braves to call up RHP Lucas Sims?
The Braves bullpen had a bad last week and don’t seem to be going in the right direction anytime soon. After the Club was given #28 in the League in ERA holding a 6.45 within the last 7 games, they looked to change up the rotation. In doing so they called up Sam Freeman, who in two outings, gave up 1 hit in 2 innings of work and helped stop the bleeding momentarily.
Braves fans may not be familiar with up and coming RHP Lucas Sims, who currently plays for Triple-A Gwinnett and has been tearing it up his past six starts. Lucas was drafted in the 1st round in the 2012 MLB Draft with the 21st overall pick. In his last 6 starts of 2017, Lucas has a 2.57 ERA and holds a 3-0 record. Sims brings to the table an opportunity to strikeout a lot of batters and keep the Braves in games, as he averages 5 strikeouts in 6 innings of work per start. Sims has major upside as he can go deep into games with his pitch counts and is willing to learn as he goes.
Yes, Lucas is still young, but what to the Braves honestly have to lose?
