Colon falls victim to long ball as Braves drop 5th straight
The Braves starting rotation continues to struggle to get outs in the early goings of game causing the team to fall into major holes before they can get their offense in a rhythm. In game 1 of a 2 game series with the Astros, the Braves sent their starter, Bartolo Colon to the mound to face Astros, Charlie Morton. Bartolo was unable to get a single out until after the Astros jumped on him, forcing 5 runs in the bottom of the first inning, courtesy of back-to-back home runs by Carlos Correa and Carlos Beltran putting the Astros up 5-0.
Colon was able to settle down after the rough first inning but it was too late as the Braves were unable to produce that many runs. He retired the next 14 batters to give the Braves a chance to come back. In the bottom of the fifth inning Colon once again gave up a home-run but this time to outfielder, Josh Reddick, giving the Astros a 6-0 lead.
In the top of the sixth the Braves were able to put 3 runs on the board from singles by Matt Kemp and Nick Markakis, followed by a bases loaded walk, put the Braves down 6-3.
Bartolo then went to work in the bottom of the sixth and instantly returned those runs back to Houston with a Alex Bregman triple and a single by Norichika Aoki, extending the Astros lead to 8-3 and ultimately putting the game to far out of reach.
With this loss the Braves continue their 5 game losing streak, and fall to 11-19 for the season.
The Braves will send their starter, Jaime Garcia (3.99 ERA and 1-1) to the mound to take on Astros, Joe Musgrove (5.40 ERA and a 1-3)
Game is set to start at 2:10pm ET
