In the wake of Freeman being placed on DL, Braves call up Rio Ruiz
The Braves have called up AAA Gwinnett 3rd baseman, Rio Ruiz, in the wake of Freddie Freeman being placed on the DL with a left fractured wrist. Rio will take over duties of 3rd base whereas, Braves utility man, Jace Peterson, will take over 1st base. Rio was called up in 2016 and played in 5 games, claiming 2 hits in 7 at bats and 2 RBI’s.
Rio has spent the offseason perfecting the hot corner and is hitting .262 with 4 Home-runs and 16 RBI’s at AAA Gwinnett. With the call-up of Ruiz, the Braves will look for an upgrade at 3rd base until Adonis Garcia can return from DL along with a consistent bat at the plate. The Braves see both potential in Rio.
