BREAKING NEWS: Atlanta United is Playoff Bound!
After an amazing undefeated streak at home that is been pushed to 12 straight matches, Atlanta United has sealed a playoff spot with a 3-0 victory over the Philadelphia Union!
Following the news that Miguel Almiron would be missing a minimum of 3 weeks due to a hamstring injury, Atlanta started Julian Gressel in his place.
Gressel knowing he needed to take advantage of every opportunity he had, got started early and was able to open up the scoring with a goal in the 27th minute.
As every Atlanta United fan knows once the scoring starts it doesn’t normally stop and that definitely was true tonight! Only six minutes after Julian Gressel put one in the back of the net, it was lead scorer Josef Martinez’s turn to join the party! With his goal he brought his total to 18 on the season!
Going into halftime with a 2-0 lead, Atlanta United did not let their foot off the gas so to speak. They controlled the second half and kept the match 2-0 until Jacob Peterson came in as a sub. Having fresh legs he was able to receive a pass and put it in the back of the net to put a daggerin the Philadelphia Union’s playoff hopes!
With this Playoff Clinching victory, Atlanta United becomes the first expansion side to make the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs since 2009!
