Falcons lose a lot more than a game in 23-17 defeat
In their 4th game of the season, the Falcons lined up to face the Bills in a 1 pm kickoff. After losing the toss, the Falcons received the ball and were stopped in their 1st drive. The feel of this game was not very positive as the offense couldn’t get going.
With the defense missing multiple key pieces in Beasley, Allen, and Upshaw the Falcons had to rely on backups to step up and make plays and they were unable to. After Bills Tyrod Taylor got in a rhythm, the HB screen and passing plays to the TE’s opened up.
What ultimately hindered the Falcons offense to get going and the game to open up was when WR Julio Jones injured his hip in the beginning of the 2nd quarter, followed by WR Mohamed Sanu who came out with a hamstring injury. With these top 2 WR being ruled out for the remainder of the game, the Falcons had to rely on Nick Williams and Justin Hardy to get going but they were kept in check by the Bills defense.
As many Falcons fans saw last week from Matt Ryan (3 interceptions) they hoped that it was just an off game but now are becoming more concerned after Ryan once again threw 2 inceptions today that gave the Bills key drives that led to their win.
After getting the ball back with 3 minutes left in the game and down 23-17, the Falcons orchestrated a 12 play 65 yard drive that looked to be a possible 4th quarter come from behind victory but was stopped on a 4th and 1 play on the Bills 10 yard line. With this loss, the Falcons move to 3-1 on the season with a much needed bye week next week.
With both Sanu and Jones injured, be on the lookout for updates on them as October 15th gets closer and closer.
As the Falcons look beat up, they will use this bye week to get healthy and prepare for the Miami Dolphins on October 15th at Mercedes Benz Stadium.
