On Sunday afternoon, Atlanta United took on MLS leading Toronto FC in their final match of the regular season. With a 2nd seed and 1st round bye with a win vs Toronto FC, ATL came out guns blazing.

In the 30th minute, Yamil Asad put ATL up 1-0 with a penalty kick goal. As Mercedes Benz Stadium went crazy, all the momentum shifted to United as the looked to keep the pressure on the dangerous Toronto attack.

In doing so Atlanta was able to hold onto a 1-0 lead at halftime. Knowing they were 45 minutes away from a BIG win, Atlanta United gave away a equalizer to Toronto’s Jozy Altidore who scored in the 60th minute.

With the score 1-1, Atlanta United needed someone to step up and it came in the form of a ball from Tito Villalba to Josef Martinez who put it in the back of the net in the 74th minute to put ATL back up 2-1! But the scoring didn’t end there…

When it seemed like Atlanta United was going to pull out the victory,  Toronto FC found life and scored a goal courtesy of Sebastian Giovinco who scored in the 84th minute to make the match 2-2.

In the final minutes, Atlanta United were threatening but unable to capitalize and the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

With the draw, Atlanta United gained 1 point and moved into a tie for the 3rd seed in the MLS Playoff Cup!

Join me in Congratulating Atlanta United on their amazing regular season!
