In a game where the Hawks looked to continue their winning ways, following their 112-97 win vs the Mavericks on Saturday, the Hawks faced the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night.
In the 1st quarter, the Wizards got off to a hot start and built up a 17-7 lead but the Hawks wouldn’t go away. Courtesy of Marco Belinelli and Isaiah Taylor, the Hawks went on a 16-4 run to push the score to 29-29 after one.
As the 2nd quarter got underway the Wizards once again kept the pressure on the Hawks and maintained a lead but they couldn’t shake the Hawks. With Ersan Ilyasova playing lights out, the Hawks went into half time with a 57-55 deficit behind the team’s points inside the paint.
After half-time, the Hawks came out with a fire underneath them like the do night in and night out and finally took their first lead at the 4:54 mark of the 3rd quarter behind Marco Belinelli’s 3 made free throws to make it 67-66. In no way was this game over as the Wizards bounced back and tied it multiple times until John Collins had a tip in at the buzzer to put the Hawks up 78-76 after three.
In the 4th quarter, the Hawks showed more guts and heart and ran away with the game as they began to build a lead behind their made free throws and interior scoring ability. The superstar of the game was clearly Ilyasova as he connected on multiple 3 pointers in the 4th to seal the game and give the Hawks the 113-99 victory!
The Hawks(9-25) now look ahead to their matchup with the Toronto Raptors(23-10) on Friday the 29th at 7:30pm
Key Performances:
Ersan Ilyasova: 7/14 20 pts, 9 rebounds
Dennis Schroder: 7/15 21 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists
Marco Belinelli: 7/11 19 points
