Hoop Dawgs destroy Alabama 65-46
By. Andrew Rodberg
In the first matchup between the two schools and I’m not talking about the hyped up College Football National Championship game, the Hoop Dawgs took on a 9-5 Alabama Basketball team with a packed out Stegeman Coliseum. With senior Yante Maten at the helm, the Hoop Dawgs built a huge lead within minutes and never let up. With the big football game just days away, the Georgia faithful packed the Coliseum to support the up and coming Men’s Basketball team. Half way through the 1st, the Hoop Dawgs built a 10 point lead behind Yante Maten’s 8 points. With the interior completely open the Dawgs continued to feed the big men and get easy buckets.
With Yante Maten manhandling Alabama, he made 3 three pointers before the 1st half expired the Dawgs went into halftime with a 44-24 lead.
As the second half got underway, the Crimson Tide hoped to crawl back but were sadly inaccurate. The second half was more of the Maten show as he had an answer for everything the Tide threw at him. With all the momentum on the Dawg’s side, they closed the door and won the game 65-46.
op Players for Georgia:
Rayshaun Hammonds: 13 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist.
Yante Maten: 26 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists
Derek Ogbeide: 8 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks.
Look Ahead:
Georgia now 11-3 travel to Mizzou to take on Tigers on Wednesday January 10th at 9pm on ESPN2. Mizzou is 11-3 and look to be a solid SEC team this season.
