Following a big 22-9 win on Friday afternoon, the Dawgs hosted the Eagles for the next 2 consecutive days. Unfortunately game #2 didn’t turn out the way the Dawgs wanted as they surrendered 4 runs in the 7th inning and 3 runs in 9th, giving the Eagles a 8-3 victory and handing the Dawgs their first “L.”
But game #3 was all about UGA pitcher, Chase Adkins. Adkins pitched a gem of a game where he was pulled after 6 innings, 8 strikeouts and only allowing 2 hits. With the Dawgs able to get on the board in the 7th inning courtesy of a 2 run home-run by UGA LF, Keegan McGovern. McGovern’s bat allowed the UGA relief pitchers to play their game and not be affected by the batter.
After the 2 run UGA lead in the 7th, the Eagles came storming back and took the lead with a 3 run 8th inning. But the Dawgs had yet another answer and rallied behind the hot batter, McGovern and the MVP of game #1, Cam Shepard.
With runners in scoring position in the bottom of the 9th inning, UGA’s McGovern drew a walk and tied the game and UGA SS, Cam Shepard brought them home! Shepard after being patient, found a pitch he could drive to the outfield and he did just that to allow the base runner on 3rd to tag up and seal the 4-3 victory for the Dawgs!
Looking ahead:
The Dawgs now head west to face a struggling 1-3 Kennesaw State Owls team who have lost 3 games at home and have given up 26 runs during those games.
