In a game that looked to be a disaster for the Dawgs, giving up 3 runs in the 2nd inning to Kennesaw State, the Dawgs showed they wouldn’t go away. In doing so, UGA’s OF Keegan McGovern, made an immediate impact in the 3rd inning with an opposite field home-run to cut the deficit to 1 run and the Dawgs were far from done! The next batter, UGA’s SS Cam Shepherd joined the fun and also blasted a home-run to tie the game a 3-3 and give UGA its first back to back home-runs since 2016.

With the starting pitchers having issues early, both teams went to their bullpen with the game far from over. The Owls took back the lead with a bloop hit in the bottom of the 3rd to make the score 4-3 which held on until the 6th inning when the Dawgs bats came alive.

In the 6th inning, the Dawgs woke up and went on a rampage! After back to back walks that gave the Dawgs the lead 5-4, the Owls completely fell apart and the Dawgs wouldn’t let up! A 11 run 6th inning courtesy of 3 walks, 2 HBP’s and 3 singles gave UGA a 14-4 lead going into the bottom of the 6th.

At this point in the game, UGA’s bullpen began to outshine KSU’s as they shut down batter after batter and didn’t allow a single hit from inning 6-9 as they cruised to their 3 win out of the last 4.

Looking ahead:

The Dawgs now head back home to start a 3 game series with the Charlotte 49er’s, who are 3-1 on the season and just recently lost a hard fought game to #12 NC State 6-9.
