Following a 9-2 win vs the Cardinals on Saturday as previously written about in, Christian Colon shines as the Braves stun the Cardinals 9-2 the Braves then took on the Marlins in a Sunday 1:05 pm start. In doing so, the Braves sent Mike Foltynewicz to face the Marlins Dan Straily.

As the game got underway, it was obvious that it would be a pitching battle as Folty and Straily both were hitting the strikezone and limiting each others offense. Both Straily and Folty went 3 innings while each only giving up 1 hit and no runs.

In the top of the 4th the Braves looked to Aaron Blair to continue the shutout whereas the Marlins looked to Adam Conley.

Aaron Blair was able to work a clean inning after only giving up 1 hit but Adam Conley had some trouble as the Braves struck first.

In the bottom of the 4th inning, Ozzie Albies was able to line a single to third base and Freddie Freeman continued his hot streak as he hit a double to right center to scored Albies and give the Braves a 1-0 lead. The fun didn’t stop there… Nick Markakis then came up to the plate with Freeman on 3rd and was able to connect on a first pitch RBI single to right field to score Freeman and extend the lead to 2-0.

The scoring then subsided from innings 5-6 until Marlins DH Bryan Holaday connected on a 1-1 pitch and sent it soaring into left field to get the Marlins on the board down 2-1. The Marlins bullpen then fell apart in the bottom of the 7th as they issued 2 consecutive walks followed by a two RBI singles by Alay Lago and Tyler Marlette to give the Braves a 5-1 lead. The Braves then pulled everyone and allowed the youngsters to play. In doing so, the Braves gave up a RBI single to give the Marlins a 5-2 deficit and the loss.

Key Players:

Ozzie Albies: 2-3 1 RBI

Freddie Freeman: 2-3 1 RBI

Mike Foltynewicz: 3 innings, 1 hit 1 SO

Looking Ahead:

The Braves remain at home and now look ahead to a matchup with the Pittsburgh Pirates tomorrow afternoon at 1:05pm.
