Injury Update: Anibal Sanchez’s Hamstring, Who will take his start today?
By. Andrew Rodberg
In what some could call a “freak injury,” the Braves must now scramble to figure out who will take Sanchez’s start on Thursday night vs the Mets. On Wednesday night, Braves starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez was doing his routine sprints the day before his start and on his last sprint, fell to the ground after feeling something in his leg.
With trainers coming to the rescue, they placed Sanchez’s right leg in an air-cast which had many people wondering if he had severely injured himself. Upon further evaluation, it was announced that he had suffered a strained right hamstring that has now landed him on the DL.
Sanchez, a pleasant surprise this year, boasting a 1-0 record, 1.29 ERA, 14 innings pitched and 14 strikeouts must now heal before he can continue with his stellar start to 2018. Now the question being asked is, who will take his start today vs the Mets?
Many presume that Mike Soroka was the next pitcher to be called up but he has been ruled out of this start since he pitched 2 nights ago. With the Braves needing to call someone up from Gwinnett, it is looking to be Matt Wisler’s time to shine. On Thursday afternoon, it was formally announced that Matt in fact would get the nod tonight vs the Mets’ Matt Harvey.
