Its officially Auburn hate week and one team looks to continue their hot streak where the other is trying to spoil their opponents season. After last year’s heartbreak blowout loss in Auburn, the Dawgs return home to Sanford Stadium with hopes of extending their win streak to 3 straight.
In their last 2 meetings, the results were both lopsided with Auburn winning the matchup on November 11th 40-17 and Georgia getting revenge in the SEC Championship with a 28-7 victory. With the Dawgs beginning to sense the SEC Championship and the possibility for a 2nd consecutive College Football Playoff appearance, here are a few keys to victory:
Force Turnovers/Collapse the Pocket:
Ever since Georgia got hit in the mouth vs LSU, the defense has really stepped up and caused some disruption to opposing QB’s. After being dead last in sacks, the Dawgs came through with 4 sacks against #9 Kentucky as they routed the Wildcats for their 2nd consecutive SEC East Title. If the Dawgs are able to attack Stidham, it will force him to throw into tight coverage and result in mistakes that could ultimately cost the Tigers.
Come Out Swinging:
A lot like the game against Mississippi State last year, the Dawgs need to create some play action passes along with some trick plays in order to keep the Auburn defense on their heels. When they expose the edges with passes it will allow for the running game to prosper.
Don’t Let Up/Make a Statement:
With the final 3 weeks of the season in reach, the Dawgs now sit in the #5 spot hoping for a Michigan, Notre Dame or Clemson hiccup in order for them to jump into the top 4 before the SEC Championship. With that being said, the committee will dissect every part of the Dawgs moving forward. The Dawgs must keep “pedal to the metal” to standout and show that they deserve to be in the CFP.
Feed off the Crowd:
With the second night game on the horizon, Sanford will be hyped as the Dawgs take on a rival in the Auburn Tigers. As big plays happen, the Dawgs will feel the energy that DawgNation gives off. With the history between the two teams last season, this game is bound to be a good one. But ultimately the Dawgs will pull away.
