After being released by the Braves at the end of the 2018 season, Nick Markakis decided to test the free agent market. In doing so, the Braves also looked to fill the RF hole that came along with moving past Nick.
Sadly for Markakis and the Braves neither were able to find a decent deal and both remained without an OF spot. As the offseason continued, the Braves pursued AJ McCutchen and Michael Brantley but both decided to sign with different teams.
GM Alex Anthopoulos had many Q&A’s and stated that they were looking to get an outfielder but nothing was in place. At 3:30pm today, it was announced via The Athletic that Nick Markakis and the Braves had agreed to a 1 year $6 million contract that will allow the Braves another year to try to develop their prospect Cristian Pache.
Nick Markakis had a strong 2018 season where he had 185 Hits, 78 Runs, 14 HR’s, 93 RBI’s and a .297 batting average. He snagged Silver Slugger and Gold Glove awards and became a 1st time All-Star.
