In the first Spring Training game of 2019, Braves youngster, Touki Toussaint got the nod. In 2018, Touki had his MLB debut and helped the Braves secure the NL East Title. With a 2-1 record and a 4.03 ERA, Touki was able to get a taste of the Big Leagues and took some things with him to build on going into this offseason.

On Saturday afternoon the Braves headed down to Port St Lucie to take on their division rivals, the New York Mets. With a 1:10 start, the Braves faced Walker Lockett in what looked to be a 2 inning exhibition for the starters.

For the Braves not a single starting lineup player entered the game. Whereas the Mets sent out half of their current starting lineup in the first spring game of 2019.

In the 1st inning both teams went down in order but in the 2nd the Braves opened up the scoring courtesy of two Mets errors and a few singles that ran off Lockett and put them up 2-0.

Touki looked good in the 1st inning but fell victim to the long ball when he let Peter Alonso crush a 2 run homer to left-center field to tie the game a 2-2. Kolby Allard took over in the 3rd and the defense couldn’t support him as they gave up an infield single and an error that allowed the Mets to take a 3-2 lead. In the 4th, the Braves substituted out the infield and brought in the youngsters who held their own for the remainder of the game.

The Braves and Mets exchanged late inning home-runs by Mets’ Rymer Liriano and Braves’ Connor Lein as the Mets took the game with a final score of 4-3. The Braves now head to West Palm Beach to face the Astros tomorrow at 1:05pm
