In the second Spring Training game of 2019, the Braves sent out Mike Foltynewicz to take on the Astros. In 2018, Folty earned his first All-Star Bid with a 13-10 record and holding a 3.37 ERA. He had his first career ever shutout and had two complete games during the season.

On Sunday afternoon the Braves headed down to West Palm Beach to take on the Houston Astros. With a 1:05 start, the Braves faced Astros’ Framber Valdez in what looked to be a yet another 2 inning exhibition for the starters. For the Braves, they sent out starters Acuña and Albies, whereas the Astros sent out five of their current starting lineup in their second spring game of 2019.

In the 1st inning, the Braves got the game started with a leadoff Acuña walk and an Albies’ single but came away empty after 2 groundouts and Acuña getting caught in between third and home. The Astros got to Folty early and often with a Josh Reddick double, an E5, HBP and walk that gave them a 1-0 lead after one inning.

Folty looked decent but had some difficulty finding the strike-zone as he constantly saw base runners in his two innings of work. Braves’ Luke Jackson came in the third and allowed the Astros to build a 5-0 lead through three.

Both Acuña and Albies were pulled after each getting two at bats.

Acuña ended the day with 1 BB and 1 K (looking)

Albies ended the day with 1 1B AND 1 GO.

The Braves couldn’t get anything going as they gained two runs back with a home-run from Pedro Florimon and a Schwartz RBI groundout. Unfortunately the Astros’ lead was too much to come back from and the Braves fell to a score of 2-5. They now head back home to Orlando to face the Nationals tomorrow at 1:05pm.
