Tim Elliott Rolls as #4 Georgia Defeats #13 Clemson, 5-3
By. Andrew Rodberg
In the first single matchup with #13 Clemson, the Dawgs turned to Tim Elliott to take on Clemson’s Brooks Crawford. With the 6:00pm first pitch, the Dawgs looked to jump on Clemson and continue their hot streak.
Tim Elliott, who previously held a .066 ERA in his first six appearances of 2019, was focused on getting back on track after giving up one run and four walks against Georgia Tech last week.
As the first pitch got underway, Tim Elliott looked to give the Dawgs a big time victory against another ranked opponent. With Clemson’s senior pitcher, Brooks Crawford taking on the #4 Bulldogs, he started his evening with a rude awakening. Crawford was unable to get through the first three batters as he gave up a single to Riley King and Aaron Schunk made him pay with a 2-run homer to left field that gave the Dawgs an early 2-0 lead.
The scoring halted for a few innings until Crawford lost a few base-runners in the fourth, courtesy of an error and a hit by pitch. This scenario allowed Cam Shepherd to come to the plate with two runners in scoring position. Shepherd jumped on the first pitch and drove in two additional runs to extend the Dawgs lead to 4-0.
With this early lead, Tim Elliott started his evening calm and relaxed, knowing he had a few runs to work with. Elliott pitched a gem as no Tiger was able to get a single hit until the bottom of the fourth inning. In doing so, the Tigers were unable to make anything of it and Elliott continued his shutout.
In the bottom of the fifth Elliott left a ball over the plate and Clemson’s Davis Sharpe connected on a solo shot to left field to put the Tigers on the board. Elliott was able work 7.1 innings, gave up 3 hits, 2 ER’s and seven strikeouts on his way to another win.
After a stellar outing for Elliott the Bulldogs, looked to their bullpen in the eighth and ninth innings. Justin Glover and Aaron Schunk made appearances and gave up a combined one hit on their way to victory. The Dawgs finished the game with a 5-3 win.
The Dawgs now head to Kennesaw, GA tomorrow to face the KSU Owls in a makeup game. First pitch is set to start at 6:00pm
