#2 Georgia Avenges Previous Loss to Georgia Tech With 12-2 Victory

Following a rainy and cold evening on Tuesday, March 26th in Atlanta, the Dawgs fell to the Yellow Jackets in a seven inning game 11-2. In doing so, the Dawgs left Atlanta with a bad taste in their mouth. Knowing they had an opportunity to bounce back and avenge that loss later on in the season, they welcomed the Yellow Jackets to Athens on Tuesday night.

With the first pitch scheduled for 7:00pm, the newly ranked #2 Dawgs sent Tim Elliott to the mound to face Georgia Tech’s Amos Willingham. Willingham got the start in the previous matchup vs UGA and shut down the high powered Dawgs. Unfortunately for Amos, he was unable to duplicate that outing. In the first inning, Georgia jumped out to a 2-0 lead courtesy of a Tucker Maxwell solo home-run and a LJ Talley single and wouldn’t look back. It was the Bulldogs offensive show for the first three innings as they extended their lead to 5-0 in the second and third innings with a homer (Patrick Sullivan), single (Aaron Schunk) and a fly-out. As for UGA’s Tim Elliott, he was able to keep the Yellow Jackets stagnate for most of the night until a solo home-run by GT’s Tristan English put GT on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth. After that run, UGA responded with 2 more runs in the fifth to push their lead to 7-1.

Elliott continued to roll through six innings and gave up a solo homer in the top of the sixth (this one to GT’s Kyle McCann) but didn’t get flustered as the Dawgs remained in the lead 7-2. The sixth and seventh innings were huge for UGA as they forced GT’s pitcher, Keyton Gibson to issue multiple walks with the bases loaded and made the game ultimately out of reach. Two RBI walks by Shane Marshall and LJ Talley gave the Dawgs a 12-2 lead.

Following yet another great outing for Tim Elliott, he ended his start after 7 IP, 5 hits, 2 ER, 2 BB, and 6 strikeouts on his way to his fifth win of the 2019 season.

Amos Willingham worked 2 IP, 3 hits, 2 ER and got his second loss of 2019. GT’s bullpen arm, Keyton Gibson struggled with 1 IP, 3 hits, 5 ER, 4BB.

The Dawgs now push their season record to 28-6 and head to Knoxville, Tennessee to face the Volunteers in a three game series starting April 11-13.
