NFL DRAFT 2019: UGA DB Deandre Baker Drafted by The New York Giants with the #30th Overall Pick
By. Andrew Rodberg
Fresh off his best year to date, Deandre Baker looked ahead to the NFL Draft. With Baker assigned to most opposing team’s best wide receiver, he was able to completely shut down one side of the field and give Georgia the lockdown corner they desperately needed.
In his senior year, Baker didn’t allow a single TD to be scored on him as he went on his way to winning the 2018 Jim Thorpe award. The award given out to the best cornerback in the NCAA, Baker made it evident he was the clear choice with his play week in and week out.
The only blemish in Deandre’s college career falls as under a controversial subject. With Baker initially stating he wanted to play in the Sugar Bowl vs Texas, he ultimately changed his mind as he decided to sit out and focus on improving his draft stock.
With many NFL scouts acknowledging his potential, Deandre was able to stay atop the draft boards and was taken in the 1st round!
With the #30th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Giants selected the CB out of UGA !
