ATHENS, Georgia — Like last year’s regional (UGA lost to Duke 2 times), FSU bats drown UGA pitching as the Dawgs’ season ends
In the second UGA elimination game of the day, the Dawgs sent out freshman Cole Wilcox to face the Seminoles’ Conor Grady.
With the importance of the game at an all time high, the Seminoles wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. A lead-off single followed by a 2-run homer(Reese Albert) put the Noles up 2-0 early. In the top of the 3rd, the Noles forced the Dawgs into a shift and was able to beat it with a ground ball. That play resulted in a throwing error and the Noles adding two more runs on the board to make it 4-0.
UGA, the home team, couldn’t get anything going as they were no hit for the first two innings until the bottom half of the third. More trouble came in the 4th for Wilcox as he walked two consecutive batters and gave up a single as FSU pushed the lead to 5-0. Wilcox ended his outing 3.2 IP, 5H’s, 5R’s, 5BB’s and 1K.
Zac Kristofak then came in to work in relief. Kristofak looked good until an error and single in the top of the 6th put him on the ropes and gave FSU a 4-run 6th inning. With the game getting away from UGA rather quickly (9-0 FSU), the Bulldog faithful stayed in Foley hoping for an improbable comeback. In the bottom of the 6th, Tucker Maxwell got ahold of a ball and crushed it to right-field to get the Dawgs on the board.
Justin Glover came in to work the 7th inning in relief for Kristofak. Kristofak ended his outing 2.1 IP, 4H’s, 4R’s, 5K’s. A sacrifice fly in the top of the 8th, gave FSU their 10th run and put the lead back to 9 runs. Glover ended his outing after 2.0 IP, 1H, 1R, 2BB’s, 1K.
Ryan Webb came in the 9th to close out the 2019 season. Webb set down 3 of the 4 batters he faced while working a scoreless 9th.
The Dawgs went quiet in the bottom of the 9th as they were eliminated from the Tournament. (season ended with a 10-1 loss to FSU).
