ATHENS, GA— The second home game for the Dawgs includes a Top 15 matchup with the #14 Tennessee Volunteers. The Volunteers riding their longest SEC winning streak in the past few years (6) will look to spoil the Dawgs party and stir up the SEC standings. With a 3:30pm kickoff time, the Dawgs have a few keys for victory:
Contain UT QB Jarrett Guarantano:
With Guarantano surprising South Carolina and Missouri the past two weeks, look for the Dawgs to have a spy on Jarrett and limit his damage out of the pocket. With Jarrett, the main running threat when in the red zone (racking up 3 rushing TD’s through the first 2 games), he will look to keep that train rolling as he arrives Between The Hedges.
Feed off the Defense:
Just like last week and every week within the past year, the Dawgs always seem to feed off of their defense. In doing so, it has become clear that the defense is the heart and soul of the team. With the ability to substitute multiple five star players in every few snaps, Coach Smart and company have been able to force opposing teams into making mistakes and the Dawgs take advantage of it. After last week’s showing vs Auburn, they were able to force 1 interception and really made Auburn one-dimensional while stacking the box and limiting the Tigers to 39 total rushing yards. Look for QB pressure and a stout defensive line to fuel the Dawgs.
Continue to Run the Ball:
Following their best rushing attack of 2020, where the Dawgs combined for 202 yards, the Dawgs must continue to the run the ball. With the rushing game being the #1 “Georgia Way”, it is evident that they have a balanced rushing and passing attack to keep the opposing defense honest. If the Dawgs are able to effectively run the ball, look for this to be a one sided game in the Dawgs favor.
